Look after your Hedgehog and Sparrow

Some sad news today for all nature lovers. Many of our better known birds and mammals were undergoing massive declines with the hedgehog and the sparrow on course for extinction in Britain in about 17 years.

Large parts of Britain remain in biodiversity freefall and we are witnessing alarming declines in species and habitats. Numbers of farmland birds have declined by 70 per cent in less than 40 years while house sparrows have declined by a similar amount in just 30 years and bumble bee populations have halved since the 1950s.

A leading environment expert said: Failure to respond will have enormously damaging implications for our wildlife, our landscapes, our health and our quality of life.
