Gardening DIY Safety Tips
# Always pay attention when using garden equipment, especially if it is electrical. Make sure cables trial behind the equipment, never cut towards a flex or use in the rain or wet conditions and always use an RCD with any electrical garden appliance.
# Never clean, lift, adjust or even check electrical garden tools while they are still connected to a power supply. Always switch off and unplug first. Only clear grass from a power mower once it is switched off and the spark plug cap has been removed.
# Don't clean electrical garden equipment with water - switch off first, unplug and then wipe it with a cloth.
# Always protect your feet by wearing strong shoes or boots. Hover mowers and trimmers can easily drift and injure a foot.
# If you have materials such as asbestos and lead in your garden, seek advice about handling it from your local authority or call in a professional.

No Garden? See Wild Birds Close Up!

You love birds and enjoy watching them, but you have no garden. Don't get your feathers in a flap. Help is at hand - all you need is a window! The Meripac Window Feeder has 3 sided open access making it easier and safer for birds. It holds water as well as food and has a removable bird-perching strip. The feeding area is detachable which makes for simpler fixing, cleaning and filling. A safety system retains the feeder should the suckers ever fail. It has a large oval opening for the clearest view. Clear overhanging roof with visibility strip - weather protection and predator view!

Three Ways To Cut Your Food Bill

Grow your own food. Get your seeds and plant them. You don't need much space, just a tub in a window will do. It's so simple and can save you over £400 a year on fresh fruits and vegatables.

Don't waste food. The causes are various. Simply cooking or preparing too much, and throwing away the surplus, is a prime cause. So is having to throw out fruit and vegetables because they've gone off. As is not eating food before it goes past its useby date.

And throwing it out costs the average home over £450 a year, rising to £700 for a family with children.

Eat traditional foods. Get back to basics. It will help you stay slim and healthy. I've always been interested in old, traditional recipes. Just last week, rather than throw out two pints of milk that were on the turn, I slung in a handful of rice, some sugar, and a twist of nutmeg to make a delicious old-fashioned rice pudding.

And the logic can't be denied: food that isn't eaten doesn't have to be bought. Especially if it's cakes, biscuits and other fatty and/or sugary snacks. For years, experts have told us about the health and fitness benefits of dieting now maybe it's time to point out the financial benefits, too.
